17 Months Old!

Janelle turned 17 months old few days ago! Again, Mummy didn't update Janelle's blog till now. Haha. Naughty and lazy mummy! Janelle had been a TV addict recently. Everyday, Janelle will snatched the TV with Mummy and Daddy. Janelle will requested to play Barney for her to watch. Janelle kept on say "please" till Mummy and Daddy got no choice but to give in to her due to the magic word! haha. Mummy told Yi Yi why Yi Yi taught Janelle "Please" instead of other words. Janelle had been using "please" to get her ways out and things that she wants! Even when Janelle woke up in the wee morning for milk, Janelle will say "please" and pointed at the TV. But Mummy insisted not to on the TV for Janelle as the timing is not right! Well, it's a good and bad thing for Janelle to learn the word "PLEASE"!

Recently Mummy had been so busy and tired till there wasn't much photos of Janelle. But Mummy still tried to make a effort to at least took more than 20 photos for Janelle every month. When Janelle was younger, Mummy took alot of photos for Janelle. Can took up to 200+ photos for a month! But the numbers of photos had been decreasing as Janelle grown older.

Updates on Janelle!

On Monday, Mummy brought Janelle to Bedok Polyclinic for MMR Jab. Some updates of Janelle's weight and height. Janelle weight and height is 13.5kg and 85cm respectively. The nurse commented that Janelle is really "huge" for her age. Janelle weight and height is over 97 percentile! Mummy straight away consulted the nurse whether is it necessary for Mummy to cut down on Janelle's food and milk intake. The nurse said don't cut down on it as Janelle overall is not fat. She's just bigger built than other kids of her age. Most important is tried not to feed Janelle with too much sweet stuffs and drinks. While the nurse was doing the 15 months+ assessment, Janelle was walking and moving around the room! Touching here and there! After the 15 months+ assessment, the nurse instructed Mummy to carry Janelle in the way so that the jab can be done on Janelle's left hand. Mummy sang barney song (I love u) to Janelle and surprisingly Janelle didn't cried at all for this jab! Mummy praised Janelle for being a good girl!

In the afternoon, Mummy and Ah Ma went for lunch at the food centre. There was an uncle sitted on the same table. He commented that how come Janelle still doesn't know how to talk much! And asked Mummy how old is Janelle! Mummy told the uncle that Janelle is about 16 months+ old. And the uncle straight away said "No wonder don't know how to talk much!". Mummy was thinking that the uncle must had thought Janelle age is 2 yrs old+ based on Janelle's height and weight!

16 Months Old!

Janelle turned 16 months old! Mummy had been busy recently till didn't have the time to update Janelle's blog. Janelle had learned another word, PLEASE! That day, Yi Yi teached Janelle to say "please" whenever she want to have anything. And Janelle said out "please". Whenever Mummy ask Janelle what Janelle must said if Janelle want anything, Janelle will straight away say "please". Mummy felt so happy as Janelle seems to learn more and more as the day goes by.

Another 2 more months, Janelle will be attending school. Sharon Yi Yi just called Mummy and ask whether want to let Janelle take part in the dance performance for upcoming graduation ceremony. Mummy said no harm to let Janelle take part if Janelle can do the job!

Mummy need to arrange for Janelle to go for trial lesson in Sep before Janelle start her school term in Oct. As Sharon Yi Yi said that it's not advisable for parents to stay with the child when they start their school as scared that the separation anxiety from the new student might affect the existing students.

Swimming @ Sengkang Swimming Complex

Last Sunday, Mummy, Annie Yi Yi & Sharon Yi Yi brought Janelle go to Sengkang Swimming Complex! It was Janelle's first visit to swimming pool! Mummy went to pick up Sharon Yi Yi about 7.30am+ as Mummy heard from the hairstylist that early morning reach there will be better as it's not so crowded. Janelle was very excited when Janelle saw the swimming pool! Mummy haven't even managed to take off the clothes and Janelle kept on walking to the pool area! The temperature of the water is very cold. But Janelle still insisted of dipping into the pool. Luckily Mummy had bought a neck float and a sit-on float along for Janelle to use.

Since this was Janelle's first time swimming, Sharon & Annie Yi Yi said that we can't allow Janelle to stay in the pool for too long. But Mummy totally forgotten that Janelle had stayed in the pool for more than 15 mins until Annie & Sharon Yi Yi said we got to go up and change as she felt Janelle seemed to be shivering. Then Mummy saw that Janelle's lips seemed to turn a bit purpish! Janelle still cried when we brought her up to changed. Mummy told Janelle to be a good girl and will bring Janelle come again when Daddy is back.

Last weekend was an evenful weekend for Janelle (Watching Soccer on Saturday Night, Shopping, Swimming, Steamboat Buffet on Sunday)as Ah Ma and Ah Gong, Daddy, Grand-uncles and Grand-aunties went for holiday since Monday and Mummy they doesn't want to cope themselves at home so they planned for activities!

Tonite, Daddy, Ah Ma, Ah Gong and all the grand-uncles and grand-aunties will be coming home! Mummy, Ah Gu, Annie Yi Yi, Sharon Yi Yi and Serene Yi Yi had arranged to meet up for dinner before fetching all the parents from the airport!

15 Months Old!

Janelle turned 15 months old today! Wow, another 3 more months, Janelle will be attending school. Mummy had decided to let Janelle start school in first week of Oct 10. Recently Mummy had just bought a backpack for Janelle, preparing Janelle for school!

By right, Janelle should be due for MMR jab today. But Mummy had postponed the jab till further notice. Sharon Yi Yi told Mummy that during her studies, she had did a research that by taking MMR jab before a kid starts to talk, it might have a high chance of autism! Actually Mummy had went to surf the internet and there are some findings that mentioned that autism caused by MMR jab is not valid. But Mummy is still a bit worried and decided to push back the jab another 1-2 months time. After MMR jab, the next jab shall be 5in1 booster during 18 months old. Thus, Janelle needs to take the MMR jab before 18 months so that can take 5in1 booster jab during 18 months old!

Janelle had not started to talk a lot. Janelle only knows a few words like ice, 我不要, 抱抱, fish fish etc. Maybe sometimes Janelle will call for Mama, Papa etc. But Janelle had a habit of calling out the words once or twice and that's it. Janelle will not call for that words again! Janelle talked alot of baby language. And Mummy felt that Janelle's baby language can have more than 2 syllabus! Haha! Everyday Mummy will laugh at Janelle when Janelle talk using baby language as nobody can know what Janelle is talking about! And it can be very funny listening the Janelle's baby language!

Selected Child Care for Janelle!

From the previous post, Mummy will decided the child care for Janelle by end of May 2010. As mentioned previously, Zee Juniors, Honey Tree, Capre Diem @ Bedok Reservior and Our Junior Schoolhouse are those few child care centres that Mummy had selected.

2 weeks ago, Mummy brought Janelle to Capre Diem @ Bedok Reservoir, Zee Juniors and Our Junior Schoolhouse. Janelle doesn't show any separation anxiety at all! Mummy can just leave Janelle alone with the children and teachers while Mummy walk around the school with the principals. Janelle can interact well with the teachers and children without Mummy's around. Mummy felt happy about it. Mummy hopes that Janelle will keep up this good work when Janelle joins in October 2010.

After the visits to those few child care centres, Mummy had decided to enroll Janelle in Zee Juniors. Mummy really likes the environment and teaching methods over at Zee Juniors. Most important, Janelle likes the school too and Sharon Yi Yi is one of the teachers there. Thus, Mummy doens't have to worry too much about Janelle being bullied etc. But judging from Janelle's behaviour during she was at Zee Juniors for 30 mins, Mummy and Sharon Yi Yi felt that she might be the one bullying others kids!

Mummy and Daddy mentioned that they got to work double hard to earn more $$$ as Zee Juniors school fees is not cheap! For a full day child care, it costs $1,200 per month (Before subsidies)!

14 Months Old!

Janelle turned 14 months old today! Wow, another 4 more months down the road, Janelle will be attending child care. Well, as mentioned in the previous post, Mummy will finalise the centre by end of May 10. Mummy is hoping that Janelle will adapt to school environment fast and will not have separation anxiety (Crossing finger about all those bad stuffs) etc!

Muumy really felt that Janelle had grown up! Janelle can understand what adults are telling Janelle. Few days ago, Janelle was playing with Mummy's handphone and dropped the handphone under the cabinet. Mummy saw the handphone from a distance and told Janelle to pick up Mummy's handphone and bring over to Mummy. But the handphone was at Janelle's blind spot, thus Janelle only pick up the bolster and walk over to Mummy and shaked head. Mummy understood that Janelle was trying to tell Mummy that there wasn't any handphone there, only got bolster. When Janelle walk over to Mummy's side, Mummy showed Janelle the location of the handphone and immediately Janelle walked over to pick up the handphone back for Mummy. Mummy felt so happy and touched! Janelle can understand what Mummy is trying to rely to her. Even Yi Yi also said that Janelle understand well as Ah Yi also tried talking to Janelle by asking her to sit aside and wait for her while she do her stuffs before carry her etc. And Janelle really wait to the place and sit down to wait for Yi Yi.

How can I know if my baby's hearing and speech skills are developing normally?

All children develop their language, listening and speech skills at different rate. Between 12 and 24 months of age, brain developments help your child to learn and understand language.

Most children understand many more words than they are able to speak, like they are often able to point to their nose or eyes or other body parts when asked, even though they may not say the words. If your child communicates effectively through emotional expression, gestures or body language they will usually develop speech normally. However, if your child seems to lose language skills that once were mastered, it is a good idea to have them checked by the doctor.

The ability of children to communicate their needs and wants causes children to be less frustrated and research has shown that it has great language development and vocabulary building benefits. Here are some tips to give your child a head start in language development:
• Try not to anticipate your child's needs. If you always give them what they want without giving them the chance to ask for it first, they will learn that they don't need to speak
• Spend at least 15 minutes 'special time' with your child every day
Turn off the TV and radio so that there are no distractions and sit facing your child on the floor, or sit him/her on your lap, Hold him/her close and gain eye contact while talking.
• Sing action songs and nursery rhymes
Do all the actions with your hands as you sing and say the words. This helps your child develop listening, imitation and turn taking skills as well as developing their speech and language.

Brainpower helps your child do it all! To keep your child's brain energized, pump it up with vitamins and minerals. Give them at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day, and let them drink plenty of water. Remember, junk foods like chips, candies and snack cakes don't provide vitamins and minerals for your child's brain, and sometimes contain excess salt and fats that can make them feel sluggish.

Although babies start making sound much earlier but their first words are usually between 11 to 14 months. The common first words are mama and dada.

Well, Mummy is quite happy with Janelle's hearing and speech skills as they are developing normally. When Janelle heard some songs like Barney Theme song & Angry Bird song (Game from Iphone), she will dance etc! Good Job Janelle!

Visit to Honey Tree

The day before and yesterday, Mummy and Yi Yi went to visit Honey Tree @ Siglap & Bedok. The centre at Siglap is nearer to Ah Ma House. Ah Ma can walk to the centre to pick Janelle in the evening if Janelle is enrolled there. But Mummy and Yi Yi felt that the centre seems to be a bit small. Mummy and Yi Yi was thinking how can they accomodate 8 toddlers in 1 room! But hygiene was generally good. Mummy was thinking that maybe the timing during the visit @ about 5pm+, the cleaners had already cleaned up and disinfected the place.

Mummy asked the principal whether phonics lesson is conducted in this centre. The principal mentioned that phonics is conducted as an enrichment class, meaning that parents got to pay an extra $50 every month in order for the toddler to attend the lesson once every week. Phonics will only be introduced in Nursery 2. Mummy felt that it might seems a bit too late. The teacher ratio to children in Honey Tree is 1:8. Wow, Mummy felt that it's a bit too high. Mummy wants teacher ratio to children of at least 1:6. Mummy thinks that Janelle needs more attention as Mummy decided to enroll Janelle once Janelle reach 18 months old.

The fee at Honey Tree is cheaper than Zee Juniors alot. But the issue is the curriculum is total different. Mummy mentioned that will visit another 2-3 more centres to know more details and make the final decision. But Daddy and Yi Yi said that seems like 80% Mummy wants Janelle to be enroll into Zee Juniors. Haha. Well, there are alot of factors that Mummy has to consider. If Janelle goes to Zee Juniors, Mummy doesn't have to worry too much about Janelle being ill-treat by teachers etc as Sharon Yi Yi is there. If Janelle is attending school at Zee Juniors, Mummy don't need to spend extra money on bus transport as either Sharon Yi Yi or Small Grand Auntie/Uncle can help to send Janelle back to Ah Ma house after class.

Mummy knew that Zee Juniors fee is still the most expensive compared with the others child care centre that Mummy had shortlisted. But if Mummy find that the curriculum at other child care centre such as Our Junior Schoolhouse is good, the bus transport and fee along might cost almost the same as the fee of Zee Juniors!

Well, Mummy had arranged to visit Capre Diem @ Bedok Reservior, Our Junior Schoolhouse @ Simpang Bedok and Zee Juniors @ Dunman Road on next week! After next week, Mummy will do her firm evaluation on the child care centre that Janelle will be enrolled.

Child Care Centre for Janelle

These few weeks, Mummy had been so stressed up on sourcing of childcare centre for Janelle. Initially Mummy wanted to enroll Janelle at Zee Juniors but due to the high fee, Mummy had to source around for other options. Mummy felt that there are a lot of factors to consider. Mummy said she really got to sit down and think thoroughly the criteria when shortlisting the child care centre.

Today, Sharon Yi Yi called Mummy and told a good news. Sharon Yi Yi's Supervisor had worked out a better offer. Mummy had to discuss with Daddy on the new offer. It seems attractive but still got to discuss in more details with Daddy on it. Mummy really hoped that can settle Janelle's child care centre issue ASAP!

Penguin Janelle!

Mummy had been commenting that Janelle walked like a penguin when Janelle started to walk independently durin 12mths+! Janelle had officially learned to walk by herself. Everyday, Janelle will walked around with stuffs. Janelle will go to Yi Yi's wardrobe and look for stuffs and carry around the house. Ah Gu will always asked Janelle to carry the toyogo container and go market! Ever since Janelle started to walk, everyone is so busy looking and chasing after Janelle!

Once we are out of the house, Janelle will want to walk by herself. Once, Mummy left Janelle to "roam" around by following behind Janelle, you make a guess where did Janelle walk to? Janelle headed to a toys shop! Omg! Mummy quickly carried Janelle away from there as once Janelle entered the shop, Janelle will not want to come out!

2 weeks ago, Mummy brought Janelle to a 1st Year Old Birthday Party and Janelle had her first official swimming at the public pool! Sharon Yi Yi brought Janelle to the pool just to have a dip by standing without foot wear. But Janelle was so happy playing in the pool, Mummy decided to take off Janelle skirt and let Janelle "swim" with her clothes and diaper! After 10mins, Mummy said got to bring Janelle back as it's Janelle first time swimming, can't let her be in the water for too long! Janelle cried and doesn't want to be carry out of the pool! Mummy got to coax Janelle by telling Janelle that Mummy will arrange for swimming again!

13 Months Old!

Janelle turned 13 months old on 22nd April 2010! Mummy wasn't able to update Janelle's blog due to business trip (Shanghai) from 21st April 2010. Mummy just came back yesterday night from the trip. During Mummy's absence, Janelle was taken care by Ah Ma. This is the 2nd time that Mummy had left Janelle at Ah Ma house due to business trip. Everyday, Mummy called back from overseas and asked about Janelle's update. Ah Ma told Mummy that Janelle can walk more independently! When Mummy heard that, Mummy felt so happy but felt a bit sad as Mummy wasn't around to witness it by herself. Yi Yi managed to capture a short clip on Janelle first attempt to walk more than 3 steps!

Mummy had been so busy recently that Mummy didn't managed to take much pictures or videos of Janelle. Mummy felt so bad about it. Mummy promised to herself that she must not forget about the process of capturing Janelle at different stages and development.

Mummy and Daddy felt that Janelle had really grown up! Yesterday night, Janelle went together with Ah Ma, Ah Gong and Yi Yi to fetch Mummy from the airport. Mummy had not seen Janelle for 6 days. When Mummy saw Janelle, Mummy felt that Janelle looks different from 6 days ago! Janelle seems to babble more and listen more when Mummy talks to Janelle. This morning, Janelle babble "Pa Pa"! Daddy felt so happy again! Mummy said that it must be coincidence but Daddy strictly said it's not! Janelle knows how to call "Pa Pa". Well, Mummy also felt happy if Janelle is beginning to learn and speak more!

Janelle's 1st Birthday Party!

Janelle 1st birthday party was held last saturday! Mummy had been busy since the day before the party till today then got the time to update Janelle's blog. Overall, the party was quite success except that Mummy and Daddy had ordered too much food this time round!

Mummy and Daddy had decided to choose Jia Le catering. Mummy and Daddy didn't expect their serving of food is alot more than Neo Gardens! During Janelle's full month celebration, Neo Gardens' servings was not alot which ended up with not enough food for the guests during the afternoon session. Thus, this time round, Mummy and Daddy decided to order 90pax on the catering for 120+ guests. Mummy had instructed the catereer to separate the buffet line into 2 (40 pax & 50 pax). The 50 pax serving looks as much as the 70 pax serving that Mummy ordered previously from Neo Gardens.

On the day of the party, Mummy woke up at 6.30am to go market to buy chicken, ang ku kuehs, cake, fetch Great Grand Ah Ma and Grand Auntie etc. At about 9am+, Yi Yi, Ah Ma and Ah Gong reached our house. Mummy and Yi Yi faster rush down to the Multi-Purpose Pavillion to decorate the place. Ah Gong, Daddy and Ah Gu helped up with setting up the tables and chairs. At about 11am, the helium balloons and catering came! Mummy still haven't even get to bath herself and change into clean set of clothes! Once Daddy came down from his bath, Mummy handed over the place to Daddy and asked Daddy to make payment for the catering etc while Mummy proceed upstairs to bath etc. At the same time, Dadddy and Ah Gu set up the hi-fi set and played songs to create the atmosphere! Hehe.

At about 12pm+, guests started to arrive! Mummy haven't even got the time to rest. Luckily there are so many relatives around to help to look after Janelle thus Mummy and Daddy can be "spared" from carrying Janelle etc! Cake and agar agar arrived at about the same time, 1pm! That's a perfect timing as Mummy wanted to cut the cake at about 1.30pm. At about 1.45pm, Mummy asked Daddy whether can we proceed to cut the cake as Janelle was getting cranky due to lack of sleep and some guests going to leave soon too. Thus, Janelle proceed with the cake cutting session! Janelle was so happy when everyone sung the birthday song. Janelle clapped and smiled a lot while the birthday song was sung. Yi Yi even managed to capture a short clip on it.

At about 2pm+, Mummy asked some relatives to pack some food back since there were so many leftovers. Luckily our relatives are so nice and supportive of clearing the leftovers for us. Mummy also thanks Auntie Lynda for helping out to pack the food for the relatives. At last, Mummy managed to clear off all the food. Mummy and Daddy were very happy! At about 4pm+, almost all the guests had left except for grand-uncles are still there enjoying their beers! Thus, Mummy said we will just leave them there to drink, we will proceed upstairs to our house for chit chatting session instead of staying at the Multi Purpose Pavillion as there felt very warm due to the humid weather recently.

Overall, the party was quite successful! Mummy was happy with the decorations, cake, agar agar and catering. All the guests had quite positive comments about the catering. Daddy commented that he will order back Jia Le catering if there's any more upcoming functions.

Spider Baby!

Janelle did a stunt few days ago! Mummy had captured a video on the process. Mummy was shaking her head while taking the video. Mummy can't imagine that Janelle did that. Janelle is behaving like a boy! Climbing all over the place! Mummy is scratching her head on how should Mummy teach Janelle to be more feminine. But the most worry part is to lock all window grilles from now onwards!

1st Birthday!

Yesterday was Janelle's 1st Birthday! But there wasn't any birthday celebration! As mentioned in the previous post, Janelle's 1st birthday celebration will be on 10th April 2010 (Lunar Calendar Birthdate). Mummy and Daddy took off yesterday and spent precious time with Janelle. Mummy and Daddy bought Janelle to Jurong Point. It's our first time going there after the revamp since 1yr+ ago. Mummy called up Eilleen Mama and met her there with Rick Papa and Alger Kor Kor. Yesterday was also Alger Kor Kor's 2nd Birthday! Janelle and Alger wished each other Happy Birthday! Alger Kor Kor gave a goodies bag to Janelle too! Janelle felt so happy! After dinner, Mummy and Daddy brought Janelle to the Zone X to play games and exchange a Disney writing board for Janelle using the tickets that we had won from those games! Janelle had enjoyed alot yesterday. At about 8pm+, Mummy and Daddy told Janelle that we had to leave the place caused we got to go Tanjong Pagar and fetch Yi Yi. Janelle was really exhausted and tired. Once Janelle reached the car, Janelle fell asleep in less than 5 mins! Mummy and Daddy felt so happy and glad that Janelle had enjoyed herself so much.

OMG! No photos of Janelle for 11 months till today!

Mummy had not taken a single photos of Janelle (11 months) todate! What's Mummy busy with? Mummy must be busy with her upcoming business trip to Wenzhou (25th March 2010 till 30th March 2010), looking around for winter wear! Finally Mummy got some winter wears and a big red luggage from Lilian Yi Yi yesterday! During period while Mummy is overseas, Janelle will be at Ah Ma's house. Mummy really worried that Janelle will not get used to stay there. Ah Ma had suggested that if Janelle crys to go home etc, maybe they will go over and pick up Janelle's bed! But Mummy hoped that this will be the last resort! Mummy is going to miss Janelle during her business trip. Mummy hoped that she can get to sleep too! Janelle had not leave Mummy even since Janelle was born! Even when Mummy goes out after work till about 9pm+, Janelle will still waits for Mummy to come back and fetch Janelle go home. The bond between Janelle and Mummy is very strong!

Finally, Mummy had started to plan for Janelle 1st birthday party! Janelle will be having Winnie The Pooh Theme Party! Yesterday Mummy and Yiyi went to 3 places (Bugis, Tampines & Parkway Parade) to source for the party favors etc. Mummy had managed to bought the party bags, cone hats, blowouts and pencils with Winnie The Pooh theme (20 sets of party bags to be giving to kids coming to the party). That's all that Mummy can find with Winnie The Pooh theme. It seems to be a bit too little stuffs for the party bag. Mummy decided to incorporate some stickers, sweets etc to fill up the bag. But too bad, there's no sweets that's in Winnie The Pooh theme. Thus, Mummy said she will just get some party pack gummies from NTUC etc.

Mummy had also ordered a bouquet of Winnie The Pooh foil balloons for Janelle too! On the day of the party, Mummy had engaged a supplier to our house to inflat 50 pcs of helium metallic balloons and the bouquet of Winnie The pooh foil balloons. Mummy is still deciding whether to get 20 pcs of Winnie The Pooh balloons to be tied together with the party bags. Yiyi asked Mummy not to buy the Winnie The Pooh balloons. Just tied the helium metallic balloons to the party bags instead.

For Janelle's cake, Mummy had ordered a 2kg cake (Fresh strawberry cream with strawberry filling) with the figure 1 and Winnie The Pooh theme from Haven Bakery. Auntie Lynda had recommended Mummy that she heard a lot of good reviews on their fresh strawberry cream with strawberry filling. Thus, after doing some research, Mummy decided to order from them. Mummy had chosen Winnie The Pooh Birthday Suprise Decorset as the cake topper. As for the rest of the design, Mummy said she will leave it to the baker to design it.

Mummy is still deciding whether to order a Winnie The Pooh Agar Agar. Mummy wants the Winnie The Pooh hugging the honey pot design. Mummy said agar agar still can make order 4-5 days before the event. Thus Mummy will decide whether to order it by 1st week of April.

Mummy is still compiling the guest list. This time round, Mummy said there will be only 1 session of buffet (Afternoon) as Daddy needs to go work in the evening, thus the party can only be single session (Not like Janelle's full month party, Mummy made it into 2 sessions). If the guest list is too long, Mummy will have to make it a relatives session only. Mummy will have to re-arrange gatherings with groups of friends individually.
